54-Day Rosary Novena for New Zealand

As New Zealander’s prepare to vote in the upcoming election on October 17, much prayer and fasting are needed.

Our nation desperately requires wise leaders who will protect the most vulnerable in our society: most especially pre-born children, the elderly, disabled, sick, and those who would choose suicide as an answer to their suffering. Our nation’s children must be protected from perverse sex education, and grooming through activities like “story time” at the library with Drag Queens.

A powerful Novena of Rosaries, it is sometimes referred to as the “Miraculous 54-Day Rosary Novena.” The novena is completed by praying three novenas in petition, and three novenas in thanksgiving over 54 days.

This 54-Day Rosary Novena for New Zealand begins on Monday 24 August, and concludes on Saturday 17 October, 2020.

How to pray the Novena

Pray one rosary per day as indicated on the chart below. On the first day, pray the Joyful mysteries. On the second day, the Sorrowful mysteries, and on the third day the Glorious mysteries. As this novena is more than 200 years, it does not include the Luminous mysteries.

The meditations and prayers that accompany each Rosary can be found below. The first 27 days are in petition, while the second 27 days are in thanksgiving. The thanksgiving prayers are said even if the request has not been granted yet.

History of the Novena

The devotion originated in Naples, Italy in 1884. For thirteen months a young girl, Fortuna Agrelli, had suffered greatly, and physicians did not know what to do to help her.

In desperation, Fortuna and her relatives begun a novena of Rosaries. Some days later on March 3, the young girl was visited by Mary in an apparition. She sat on a high throne, holding the infant Jesus in her lap, and a rosary in her hand.

The young girl implored Our Lady: “Queen of the Holy Rosary, be gracious to me, restore me to health! I have already prayed to Thee in a novena, O Mary, but have not yet experienced Thy aid. I am so anxious to be cured!”

With tenderness, the Blessed Mother responded, “Child, you have invoked Me by various titles and have always obtained favors from Me. Now, since you have called Me by that title so pleasing to Me, “Queen of the Most Holy Rosary”, I can no longer refuse the favour you petition; for this name is most precious and dear to Me. Make three novenas, and you shall obtain all.”

Appearing to the young girl once more, the Blessed Mother said: “Whoever desires to obtain favours from me should make three novenas of the prayers of the Rosary, and three novenas in thanksgiving.”

After completing her novenas, Fortuna Agrelli was healed.

Intention for this Novena

For wise leaders who uphold the life and dignity of all human beings from conception to natural death; and who seek the common good of all citizens.
