Family Planning’s getting ready to show their true colours this week as they host their conference on “positive sexual health” in Wellington at New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa.
The conference, and it’s keynote speakers have seemed to escape the attention so far of national media, as has the content being discussed.
The deceptively cheery conference title, hides an agenda that speaks of lifestyles and behaviours that on the face of it may bring fleeting moments of happiness, only to eventually send those who partake into disease, abortion, deep hurt and regret.
So what exactly is the positive sexual health that Family Planning are talking about? The World Health Organisation’s definition speaks volumes saying that sexual health is
…a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfilled.
In a nutshell, positive sexual health is about an anything goes “sexual freedom”, for people of all ages, with access to contraception and abortion, without the so-called “hang-ups” of previous generations, religious beliefs or cultural mores. And this conference is about making sure that all New Zealander’s have this sexual “freedom” no matter what.
There’s a definite move towards promoting (and providing) greater access to abortion “services” in this country. It is no secret that Family Planning support abortion law reform, which would see abortion removed from the Crimes Act.
So intent are they on shaking things up, Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America has been invited to share her vast knowledge on building a “sexual and reproductive health movement”. Obviously Family Planning believe that the best way forward is to follow in the steps of the American abortion giant. It must have escaped their attention that more than 24 Planned Parenthood clinics have closed this year and that they have been plagued with scandal.
Another keynote, Dr Mitchell Creinin, Professor and Chair in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of California Davis School of Medicine, has done extensive research on new contraceptive technologies and medical abortion. Creinin has focused his research in part, on early methods of abortion, such as using IUDs post-pregnancy and medical abortion. He will be sharing his knowledge on these topics.
At a glance, one would think the conference was primarily about abortion given the wide range of addresses on the topic, as well as the inclusion of high-profile abortion advocates such as Dr Morgan Healy, Dr Simon Snook, Dr Alison McCulloch and Dame Margaret Sparrow. The following are a fraction of the talk titles:
- “I had an abortion”: Addressing abortion stigma by placing women at centre.
- Topic: Abortion provision in New Zealand and the role of medication abortion.
- New Zealand after-hours abortion helpline. A look at the first year of 0800 MED TOP.
- Early Medical Abortion (EMA) provision at a Family Planning clinic.
- Safety and timeliness of community-based abortion in New Zealand.
- Who Counts? The framing of abortion in New Zealand newspapers.
But one would be remiss in failing to mention the fact that both “sexuality education” and international projects are also on the agenda of this conference.
So-called “sexuality education” is a core business for Family Planning, one of the goals is to ensure that children as young as five receive their graphic sexual propaganda. Exposing children to sexuality education at such a young age has the effect of denying parents the opportunity to teach their children. Matters to do with the body are by their very nature very private. What might be appropriate for one child at a certain age, will be completely inappropriate for another child, even within the same family. Any education surrounding “sexuality” requires values and an intimacy that only parents can properly understand.
Another group of people are also coming under the spotlight at this conference. The Kiribati community have been the target of Family Planning International, who, in their largest project ever, are working in Kiribati “to increase access to sexual and reproductive health information and services”. Their efforts so far will be showcased during the conference and an analysis of the benefits given.
With sponsorship and exhibitors including ISTAR, Durex, Bayer HealthCare and ALRANZ this conference is very significant. Family Planning are working towards services that mimic that of their sister organisation Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Their ultimate goal is to push abortion, contraception and sexual promiscuity on all peoples, dismissing as irrelevant parental rights, faith, family traditions and cultural customs.
But they will not reach their goal without a fight. Family Planning’s agenda has not been sold to every person in New Zealand, nor in the Islands. The truth will be told. True freedom will reign. Family Planning will be exposed for it’s real agenda.
