This week on the Pro-Life World View, we bring you interesting articles across a range of subjects including pregnancy help, the push for euthanasia and assisted suicide as a means to reduce healthcare costs, and more.

Huge importance of pregnancy help in the battle against abortion

At a recent online conference, Jor-El Godsey, the president of Heartbeat International, the largest network of pregnancy help organizations in the world, highlighted the huge importance of pregnancy help in the battle against abortion. Godsey noted that pregnancy help leads the abortion-vulnerable woman to “have a hope for her baby, hope for her family.”

Heartbeat International is the architect of the powerful yet “warm and friendly” LOVE Approach. This programme guides pregnancy advocacy: listen and learn, open options, vision and values, extend and empower. The approach is highly effective in opening hearts and minds.

The US pregnancy help movement saves over three thousand babies a week.

FLI’s National Director, Michelle Kaufman, notes that the LOVE Approach guides the work of FLI’s Gianna’s Choice pregnancy advocates, who receive training from Heartbeat International. “The LOVE Approach is a compassionate method of listening to the needs and concerns of mothers who turn to our team for help. We can then meet her individual needs and provide the care, support, and practical assistance she needs to continue her pregnancy with hope.”

Abortion is the #1 crisis facing black America today

Planned Parenthood is helping black Americans to commit race suicide

Walter Hoye, a Baptist preacher, speaks out about the danger of abortion to the black population in the United States, saying that Planned Parenthood programmes were helping negroes to commit race suicide. When Walter Hoye and his family were marching with Martin Luther King in the 1960s, they feared that America’s birth control clinics and Planned Parenthood, founded by racist Margaret Sanger, were targeting black Americans with abortion.

It is predicted that by 2036, the average number of children born to a black American woman will be below 1.3. The author explains that such a low birth rate “is impossible to reverse because it would take 80 to 100 years to reverse itself.”

Assisted suicide will save health care systems money heartless study suggests

The Canadian Medical Association Journal has published a study that suggests the Canadian healthcare system could save millions through euthanasia or medically assisted suicide.  The study authors claim they were not suggesting using Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) as a cost-cutting measure. The question must be asked: why undertake and publish the study unless the intention was to lend support to this scandalously utilitarian approach?

Dark day for democracy as Government announces enforcement of illiberal buffer zones

In 2023, England and Wales implemented buffer zones around abortion centres in order to exclude anyone considered by the Police to be intimidating or harassing people accessing the building.  While several people have been arrested for the thought crime of praying outside an abortion clinic, the application and enforcement of these zones have not been uniform.

SPUC spokeswoman Alithea Williams commented, “The shameless pro-abortion lobby continues to lie about the nature and practice of pro-life vigils, where selfless individuals offer help and moral support … to women in crisis pregnancies.”

In New Zealand, a similar law exists, providing for the establishment of the misnamed Safe Areas. Most abortion facilities now legally have such an exclusion zone in place. Unfortunately, there has not been a uniform interpretation and enforcement of the Safe Area regulations by the Police.

Ideological journalists unjust blame pro-life legislation for women’s deaths

Secular Pro-Life, a US pro-life group for “atheists, agnostics and other secularists,” says that ideological journalists are unjustifiably blaming laws limiting abortions in certain States for mothers’ deaths. For example, a woman who took abortion pills in North Carolina suffered serious complications when some of her babies’ remains were still in the uterus. She died in the emergency room of a hospital in Georgia, where the law forbids abortion when there is a detectable human heartbeat. ProPublica, which claims to carry out investigative journalism in the public interest, implies that Georgia’s heartbeat law was to blame. Secular Pro-Life aptly comments:  “The North Carolina abortion pills had already caused the deaths of Thurman’s unborn children. It follows, by definition, that nothing occurring five days later could have possibly violated Georgia’s anti-abortion law.”

MAiD in Canada Hits a Tragic Milestone

MAiD in Canada Hits Tragic Milestone

Dr. Joseph Meaney, president of the US-based National Catholic Bioethics Centre (NCBC), charts the ever-worsening situation in Canada through Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), the official term for euthanasia.

  • Euthanasia has rapidly climbed to being the fourth leading cause of death in that country.
  • Growing numbers of Catholics avail themselves of euthanasia, apparently unaware that it is gravely sinful.
  • People increasingly think they have an obligation to die as official teams actively promote euthanasia at the bedside in all Canadian hospitals.
  • Moves are underway to loosen the law further to allow euthanasia for depression… and the list goes on.

Joseph’s essay on the slippery slope of euthanasia in Canada is an essential read for New Zealanders in light of the current review of the End of Life Choice Act.
