This week on the Pro-Life World View, we bring you news and commentary about euthanasia facilities within a Catholic hospital in Canada, the deceptions within IVF embryo adoption, a UK Catholic Archbishop’s reaction to the Assisted Suicide Bill, and the release of disturbing sex education guidelines in a Catholic Archdiocese in Germany.

MAiD unit, forced onto St. Paul’s campus, now operational
Canada’s euthanasia programme has just got even more bold, with the British Columbia provincial government operating a euthanasia facility on the grounds of St Paul’s Hospital, a Catholic institution. Another euthanasia facility is to open at a second site at the new St Paul’s Hospital, which is nearby. Both facilities are located in Vancouver. Providence Health Care operates and owns the buildings of St. Paul’s Hospitals; however, the institution receives operational funding from the local government. Pro-life in its health care stance, Providence Health Care does not permit direct abortion or euthanasia to be undertaken on its sites. Pro-euthanasia lobby groups and the media agitated for change, and the provincial government, violating the moral right of the facility to object, has forced the hospital to accept the MaiD unit on site.

Archbishop ‘Shocked and Disappointed’ by House of Commons’ Passage of Assisted Suicide Bill
UK politicians have voted in favour of legalising assisted suicide despite fierce opposition from religious and secular groups. Passing by just 23 votes [315 to 291] on June 20, the legislation will now go before the House of Lords, where the proposal will undergo further scrutiny and amendments may be proposed. Reacting to the news, Archbishop Sherrington spoke of genuine compassion, saying, “The vocation to care is at the heart of the lives of so many people who look after their loved ones and is the sign of a truly compassionate society.” He emphasised the importance of high-quality palliative care. He called for support from Catholics for “those who work tirelessly to care for the dying in our hospices, hospitals, and care homes.”

New Anti-Catholic Sex-Education Guidelines in Hamburg Are Fruit of German Synodal Way, Say Experts
New sex education guidelines for the Archdiocese of Hamburg, Germany, have been released, indoctrinating young people in Catholic schools with worldly and harmful ideas. The agenda is not hidden with a statement from the archdiocese claiming that “the recognition of different identities and sexual orientations is actively promoted.” Furthermore, the statement announced that the dismantling of “discrimination and taboos” should be a consciously undertaken effort. Catholic parents in Germany who wish to adhere to their responsibility to ensure their children are well-formed and in the truth have very few options to protect their children from indoctrination. Home education, an option many parents throughout the world take to avoid this harmful nonsense, is illegal in Germany. Parents are the first and primary educators of their children. When it comes to the sensitive matter of sexuality, they ought to be supported in teaching their children. Parents need to be assured that their efforts will not be undermined, especially by the Church and her educational institutions.
