How conscience violations lead to moral injury
Xavier Symons has written a timely book entitled “Why Conscience Matters: A defence of conscientious objection in healthcare”. In his book, he cites the work of Dr. Debra Hanna, who undertook a study of “moral distress” among some nurses who assisted with elective abortions. Her findings are perhaps not startling to anyone who understands the horrendous nature of abortion – the deliberate killing of a tiny, innocent human being. Symons argues in his book that health practitioners (and other professionals) are forced to act contrary to their conscience and suffer “moral injury.” He suggests that “To seriously violate conscience is, in a very meaningful sense of the word, to do violence to one’s self… it untethers you from the commitments that previously gave your life direction and meaning.”
This issue will be of acute interest right now as we each prepare to participate in the Government’s invitation to consult publicly about the End of Life Choice Act review. Restrictions on the exercise of conscience over euthanasia or medical enablement of suicide can most certainly result in moral distress and injury to those forced to participate against their conscience, and apparently even in those who do so willingly.

Pro-abortion lobbyists in Arizona are campaigning to once again legalise “access to abortion” in the State. A judge has sided with a pro-abortion coalition that the term “unborn human being” be removed from a pro-life ballot pamphlet and replaced with a different term, such as “fetus.”
Control over the choice of words is a powerful tool in propaganda warfare, and it is evident that the pro-abortion lobbyists know this from the way they have celebrated their legal victory:
“We won the publicity pamphlet lawsuit! Arizona voters are another step closer to having our say and restoring access to abortion in our state”.

“My son, Xavier, is dead – killed by the woke mind virus,” said Elon Musk in an interview with Jordan Peterson. He talked about being tricked into allowing his son to become a “girl.” Musk’s comments, reported by Spiked, a libertarian online political journal, are blunt and full of pain. He speaks of the weaponisation of suicide, referring to how he was told his son was in danger of committing suicide if he did not agree to the so-called transitioning regime. The author of the Spiked article highlights the false claims about suicide made by the gender-transitioning lobby and the risk of permanent physical harm of puberty blockers such as the sterilisation of children, aptly commenting, “It is a testament to the horrors that can emerge when reason sleeps and ideology rules.”
