Pro-Life World View | June 28, 2024

This week on the Pro-Life World View, we bring you several article addressing the natural repercussions of euthanasia, more on the LGBTQ+ agenda, and research into the problem of falling birth rates.

Death by organ donation: Euthanizing patients for their organs gains frightening traction

The article featured is by an Intensive Care specialist with extensive organ transplant experience, and he raises significant concerns.   The practice of harvesting organs from people who have died by natural means (e.g. illness, accident, etc) is far from new.  Further, following the legalisation of euthanasia in many parts of the world, donation after death is also a reality – whereby organs are taken from donors who have just been voluntarily euthanised.

The logical next step is recovering organs from an apparently voluntary donor while they are still alive.  The act of harvesting the organs itself becomes the instrument of euthanasia (it kills the donor).  Obviously homicide, this horrifying prospect is being discussed and seems disturbingly imminent.

Even removing organs from people who have died of natural causes can be problematic.  A dead donor rule is used to protect against the possibility of death by donation.  The rule depends on an accurate assessment of brain-death to establish moral certainty of death before the harvest of organs from a body.  Provided moral certainty of brain death can be determined, agreeing to donate one’s organs is considered an act of charity to others.

Two years since Dobbs: where we stand now

Here is a brief assessment of the challenges facing the pro-life movement in the United States, summarised in five points. It is a quick and worthwhile read.

  • Pro-abortion advocacy won’t stop.
  • The Roe v Wade and Dobbs decision did not end abortion in the US.
  • Many think a few abortions are okay.
  • The abortion Pill is a significant threat.
  • Education is vital.

Canadian man offered euthanasia ‘multiple times’

Roger Foley struggles with lifelong disabilities and chronic pain and with getting the level and quality of support he needs to manage his conditions.  Now, he must also deal with the trauma of being offered MAID (Medical Aid in Dying – Canada’s euphemism for assisted suicide and euthanasia).  This so-called “treatment option” becomes another pressure, which can feel like the only option.  The article uses his story to illustrate the work carried out by the Dying to Meet You project, established to “humanize our conversation on suffering, death, meaning, and hope.”

“What Will This Child Be?”
John M. Grondelski – The Catholic Thing

“What Will This Child Be?”

The future of a baby in the womb is a question many parents ask themselves.  At the heart of this article is the humanity of two babies in the womb – St John the Baptist and Our Lord Jesus Christ.  The article is also about sexual ethics and how our societies do or don’t deal with these issues.  The timing is a wonderful memorial as the decision to overturn Roe v Wade occurred two years ago on the very day of the Nativity of St John the Baptist.

As the author says:

“Does it not suggest that, amidst the current battle between the culture of life and the culture of death, the Gospel poses the question we should be asking: what will this – and every – child be?”

LEGO Celebrates LGBTQIA Pride Month …

… with Drag Queens and Furries.  If, like me, you didn’t know what “furries” are, read the story via the link.  The famous Lego toy company has been promoting “gay and transgender ideology” for quite some time.  Are there any boundaries that will not be crossed by assaults on what is truly good and praise-worthy in authentic marriage and family life?  Childhood toys!  May God forgive them, but may we be ever on the alert and active against these kinds of attacks on the innocence of our children.

The LGBT lobby’s ultimate goal is to redefine the family.

First you redefine marriage; then you redefine parenthood,” explains the author.

This article focuses on legal moves by homosexual and other non-heterosexual activists to push for enshrining in law recognition and support for a (perceived) right to children of their own. How?  By using IVF with surrogacy, or perhaps by transgenderism, parenthood may be achieved by whatever civilly legal means possible.   Therefore, legal definitions are being targeted for massaging into disordered shapes.  It is an intentional push in the same way marriage was redefined to change the boundaries.  There is an activist movement called Men Having Babies, for example, seeking to redefine the meaning of infertility to include homosexual couples, therefore opening the door to the use of IVF with surrogacy to overcome infertility.  Note that children become a commodity.  What are their rights under such a regime?  Where are the protections of their interests?

Irish Catholics fly Sacred Heart of Jesus flags in response to LGBT ‘pride’

“Different lay Catholic groups simultaneously decided to start small campaigns to encourage people to recall that the month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and not to the celebration of the very gravest of all sins.”

These are the headlines for this encouraging article describing the efforts of some groups of faithful Catholics in Ireland.  Over 1,000 Sacred Heart banners and flags were on display!  One of the organisers talked of “the virus of pride” and pointed to the display of the flags and banners as a simple reminder of the need to repent and depend on the Mercy of the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the cure for this “virus of pride.”

It is worth noting that Ireland and New Zealand have populations of similar size.

Pro-life song about an aborted baby skyrockets on iTunes country chart

I Was Gonna Be is a song that has captured the attention of many iTunes listeners, having shot up to number 5 on the iTunes country chart.  The lyrics tell the story of an unborn baby killed by abortion.  Songwriter Chris Wallin comments, “I just wanted people to hear the voice of the voiceless.” It was sung by Rachel Holt, who wanted to sing it because so few young people hear the truth about real life.

How does abortion affect birth rates and demography

Abortion is a ‘big player’ in Britain’s birth crisis

How does abortion affect birth rates and demography?

Recently, we have highlighted several articles about birth rates.  Many developed countries have rates below replacement levels, leading to looming and problematic economic and social impacts.  Not surprisingly, some serious analysis of influences on both pregnancy rates and live birth ratesare underway, particularly in the wake of ineffective efforts to stimulate birth rates in some countries.

The first article was commissioned by UK’s Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC UK). It takes a serious research-based look at the impact abortion has on population.

The second article is a summary revealing the key findings from the research undertaken.

There are many complexities affecting the answer to the headline question.  Nevertheless, there is reason to hope: “The most likely outcome of more restrictive abortion policy is fewer pregnancies, fewer abortions, and more births.”

Both linked articles are well worth reading!
