This week on the Pro-Life World View we bring you a good news story about how the Finnish Medical Association reaffirms its opposition to euthanasia, an interesting twist in the abortion pill reversal debate, and ways you can reduce your child’s screen time.

Finnish Medical Association reaffirms its opposition to euthanasia

There are still some countries in the developed world where doctors are actively resisting the culture of death drive to legalise euthanasia and doctor-assisted suicide.  The Finnish Medical Association surveyed doctors and made international comparisons before declaring this ongoing stance.  They “emphasised that the primary role of physicians is to protect life using current medical knowledge and to alleviate suffering, rather than addressing healthcare system deficiencies through euthanasia.”

It is encouraging to see the Finnish Medical Association’s awareness of the potential of euthanasia to be used as an economic out for the publicly funded healthcare system.

Census Fidelium
Stephen P. WhiteThe Catholic Thing

Survey results indicate many US Catholics support abortion

In an article entitled Census Fidelium, the latest Pew Research Center survey is discussed.  The author asks, “What are the conditions most conducive to promoting and maintaining a deep and abiding practice of the Catholic faith?”

On the question of abortion, among weekly Mass attendees, the number who “believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases” is a lamentable 34%.  This figure climbs to a disturbing 61% among people calling themselves Catholic but not regularly attending Mass.  Given the difference between those regularly attending Mass and other Catholics, Mass attendance itself is an important indicator of the health of the Church – about 25% of Catholics are weekly Mass-goers.

Petition to have Harrison Butker Fired From Chiefs

You may or may not know about this American Football star who is under fire for having dared to speak his mind at the Benedictine College (Catholic) graduation ceremony.  His comments in the keynote address are being quoted and misquoted globally, with an emphasis on his supposed “sexist, homophobic, anti-trans, anti-abortion and racist” comments.  One example that seems to have hit a nerve is:

“I’m on the stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation… She is a primary educator to our children. She is the one who ensures I never let football or my business become a distraction from that of a husband and father. She is the person that knows me best at my core, and it is through our marriage that, Lord willing, we will both attain salvation.”

FLI’s Comment: Whatever your views on Harrison Butker’s speech, he was espousing a truth and an important teaching of the Catholic Church that we are called to embrace our vocation.  If we are married, our primary task in this life is to get each other to heaven.  For those who are blessed with children, they are the primary educators of their children, and it is a God-given privilege and responsibility.

ACOG Admission that APR Works
Randall K. O’Bannon, Ph.D – National Right to Life

Admission that Abortion Pill Reversal Protocol Works

American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG) and other physician groups have often been quoted as opining that the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol is unfounded, unproven, potentially dangerous, or even unsafe.   ACOG themselves have recently issued guidance to their members to avoid offering contraceptive shots (Depo Provera) at the same time as Mifepristone (the first pill taken in a medical abortion).  Why is this significant?  The main ingredient in Depo Provera is medroxyprogesterone acetate – a synthetic progesterone.  Progesterone is the anti-dote to a medical abortion.  Therefore, ACOG are admitting there is evidence that the APR protocol works the way it was intended: it helps the baby stay alive and averts the abortion!

Reduce Childs Screen Time

Three painfully obvious suggestions to reduce your child’s screen time

You will need to read this very short and helpful article to find out what they are!

Opening the door to death for the disabled
Ann Farmer – Voice of the Family

Better Off Dead!

The article summarised here highlights a rare occurrence in today’s world – a BBC documentary that is critical of what is happening with euthanasia and assisted suicide laws, with a particular focus on people with disabilities. Entitled “Opening the door to death for the disabled,” the article pulls no punches. Some examples:

  • Wherever the ‘right to die’ is legalised, the right to care is seriously diminished.
  • In another article entitled “Ignore the reactionaries who oppose assisted dying,” a journalist callously suggests that “people should be made aware of how much their care costs.”

Other jaw-dropping examples nakedly expose the inversion of good and evil inherent in the drive for legalising killing and suicide.

As mentioned in previous news summaries involving euthanasia, the upcoming review of New Zealand’s End of Life Care Act has the potential to push New Zealand further down a similar trajectory to Canada and other jurisdictions. Prayer and fasting are essential weapons to deploy now as we prepare for this.

Suicide Risk For People Who Had Gender Surgery

A new study finds the risk of suicide is 12 times higher than for people who have not had such surgery!  The linked article summarises the findings drawn from a substantial data pool.  It also refers to other studies and reports, which likewise indicate that people who have undergone so-called gender-affirming surgery are at significantly greater risk of suicide attempts (and deaths) than others.
