This week on the Pro-Life World View we bring you stories about the death toll of IVF, the rise in abortions in the USA since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and a poll that suggests the majority of American voters believe access to abortion should be guaranteed.
More human embryos destroyed through IVF than abortion every year

IVF kills more human embryos than direct abortions do
For every laboratory conceived embryo that results in a born child, around 15 to19 other embryos are either frozen, used for destructive embryo research, or simply discarded. IVF treats the conception of human babies like a manufacturing process, necessitating laboratory technicians to routinely destroy (i.e. kill) embryos who are living human beings. As this article from NCBC says “IVF is the opposite of a loving response to infertility.”
SCOTUS abortion pill case could reverse unexpected rise in abortions

Supreme Court seems likely to preserve access to the abortion medication mifepristone

Why has the number of babies killed through induced abortions increased since the overturning of Roe v Wade?
A key driver of the increase is ready access to abortion pill(s). The US Supreme Court has been asked to review US Federal policies that opened up access to mifepristone (the so-called abortion pill), via over the phone dispensing.
New Zealand has a tax-payer funded abortion pill access line named 0800 Decide – set up in November 2022. It is almost certainly pushing up abortion rates here. In addition to more babies being killed this way, such induced abortions can mean significant unsupervised risks to the mothers – such as undiagnosed ectopic pregnancies, and incomplete abortions. Many women aborting their babies this way are completely unprepared for the pain and trauma of home-based abortions, or the trauma of perhaps seeing their dead baby.
Record 59% of American voters believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases: poll

Majority of American voters think that access to abortion should be guaranteed by national legislation
According to a Fox News survey, 65% of American voters think that guaranteeing access to abortion should be legislated for nationally, and only 7% of American voters think that abortion should always be illegal.
John Smeaton, co-founder of Voice of the Family and vice-president of International Right to Life Federation, commented:
As long as Catholic bishops in the US and elsewhere continue to allow blatantly unrepentant pro-abortion politicians to receive the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion in breach of God’s laws, the general public will not take the pro-life movement seriously and will continue to accept the brutal killing of children in their mothers’ wombs as normal and acceptable. We must appeal to our pastors to hear the cries of over two billion children killed over the past 30 years by abortion, by taking an unequivocal stand in defence of humanity.
It is likely that a similar spread of views would result if a survey were done here in New Zealand.
